"I don't ever want it to be real,” says experimentalist Koreless of his music, who aims to forgo any acoustic and human element in pursuit of completely artificial sounds. But also the traditional strictures of how club music should be listened to, as he often steps away from the emotional payoff that comes from uninterrupted vocals, predictable phrasing, builds and drops, and even a kick at times. Yet Koreless’ synthetic productions still resonate with the listener in a deeply emotive way, and such a nuanced approach can only come from a keen understanding of how humans connect with music.
Indeed, Koreless’ fastidious approach to music-making is one of unwavering devotion in which no stone is left unturned, and no album is complete until it undergoes several years of revisions, reiterations, scratches, and entirely new interpretations. The resulting tracks speak for themselves—in a language never before heard—and have received widespread support amongst the likes of Jamie xx, FKA twigs, Caribou, and others. In 2021, Koreless went on to release his debut album Agor on Jamie xx’s label Young, and in recent years has been credited on tracks released by David Byrne, Rita Ora, Guy Gerber, SBTRKT and Cosha.
Koreless brings his solo live performance to MUTEK Montréal with an arsenal of sci-fi sketches, cross-genre glitches, alien beeps, unresolved vocals, and builds that never drop; sounds that are poised to take you somewhere, but you may never hear the destination.

A picture of a gorilla on a tightrope, or one of two tigers and a boy with face paint can indeed be sources of musical inspiration—at least they have been for Lewis Roberts, who usually starts a track with “two really stupid ideas” - self-described - and takes them to a place of melancholy.
