AGUMACA/QC
AGUMA's music is composed and performed by members Guillaume Sauvé and Gabriel R. Drapeau, long-time collaborators of the audiovisual collective EXPANSYS. This new collaborative project built around modular synthesizers pays tribute to a multitude of genres such as Fourth world, Dub and Jazz, with rhythm as a guideline. Their modular systems serve as palettes with which they manage to generate a set of polyrhythms, on hazy landscapes where we hear songs from unknown worlds.
Guillaume Sauvé, also known as Sleeprunner, is an electronic music composer. Originally from Montréal, he released his first album Chasing Ghosts in 2016 and a second Inorganica, in 2018. His sonic aesthetic is characterized by a mix of ambient techno, textures and IDM, initially based on sampling and modular synths.
Gabriel R. Drapeau performs under the name Gazebo. He is the founder of the Montréal-based electronic instrument store TechnoSynth and also offers a practice centered on the modular synthesizer. Equally involved in the field of sound and image of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, Gabezo was welcomed there for the presentation of his interactive exhibition Le Havre. Since then, he co-founded AGUMA in 2020 and recorded the album Spatium which will be released in the summer of 2022.
For this 23rd edition of the MUTEK festival, AGUMA will present a new show created from fragments taken from their vinyl album Spatium, scheduled for release in the fall of 2022 on the French-Montréal based label Chez Kito Kat Records. AGUMA will present for the first time its new compositions. We will be able to hear live the exceptional alchemy that characterizes the duo.
