Mue & Katherine MelançonCA/QC
Mue is a Montréal-based duo composed of Catherine Debard and Léon Lo. Formed in the spring of 2020, the project draws on early IDM, minimalism and natural phenomena, planning to release their debut album Les Vasières in the fall of 2022. Known under the moniker YlangYlang since 2012, Catherine Debard has released records on labels such as Crash Symbols (USA), Phinery (DK) and Pantheophania (RU), and has performed at a number of music festivals. As for Léon Lo, he has managed independent micro-label Natacha’s Recordings since the early 2000’s. Under his pseudonym Skinnybones, Lo was a core DJ of the UK-centric ESL and Knife & Fork crews, and is currently producing percussive dance music.
Katherine Melançon holds a Masters in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts (UK) and her BA in Communications studies/Interactive Medias from UQAM (CA). Her work has been exhibited across Canada, the United States and Europe, and is notably part of private and public collections such as PADORAC or Central Saint Martins’ museum. Melançon lives and works in Montréal.
The waste generated by people and their interaction with food constitutes the central theme of A Discard Study. As part of this unique performance, Mue and Katherine Melançon will eat various foods in order to create real-time sounds and visuals, which will then be transformed and layered over other images and sounds of food waste from a previous dinner between the three artists.
